And She Went Home!

It was 6:40 pm when she left her friend's birthday party venue. She left early as, sun sets very quick leaving the streets scary dark in winter days in Kathmandu. She had a deadline in her home...and had to reach before 8pm, before her father arrives home from work. She didn't have any vehicle though, she had to take either a local bus or a cab. "Cab", She thought. She couldn't trust a public vehicle for some reasons..She wore a beautiful blue dress, that defined her hourglass figure ...with that make up on; she shone with the glitters and the maroon coloured lipstick she wore absolutely enhanced her  beautiful lips..her legs looked perfect with those  high heels ..she was a pretty lady.
She was cold. She wanted to find a cab and rush to her home. She looked at her watch it was 7 pm already and her home was 45 minutes away....she had a hard time finding one. Even if she did, the cab drivers were not ready to drop her..some were too lazy...some wanted more fare...the negotiation was a failure then. She was tensed for a while until she found another 4th cab to approach to. She went near it, bent over the driver's seat and said, "Will you please go?", The driver like the others  didn't seem to be interested at the first...Later, his eyes caught her! He carefully examined her..top to bottom! She kept on requesting...bargaining with but he simply nodded and his eyes..! His eyes were elsewhere..it couldn't stop checking out her beauty with an ugly erotic mind! She realized...she knew the vulture eyes, she had seen it before! She just walked away without a word....But the driver wanted more of her sight...so he called her...again and again agreeing to her surprisingly, in a second, in the hope that she would be back. But she didn't, she just walked away with the ignorance like she didn't even hear the man's voice!

She decided to walk home. She was in disgust and fear...No no, it was not the darkness, It was the people in the road and their intentions that came out in their faces. It was that. That was darker and scarier that the cold night..It was chilly...cold wind hit her face and her slender legs...She passed by lots of men! Some called her, looked at her with weird expressions...laughing about some thing they found hilarious....They sat there, fearless, regardless of the darkness, smoking; chatting...mumbling, giggling....."Oh beautiful lady, Where are you going, want company?", "Don't you know the time is not good, the people are bad....you shouldn't walk alone at this time wearing such clothes". "Shall I drop you home?" Like they meant it for real! she didn't react...no she was not a coward...she was full with rage, anger, anxiety inside but she wasn't sure what would her reaction result. So, she kept quiet and just struggled to walk faster. "Girls these days", said a middle aged woman at a shop she passed..."Rich parents' spoilt brats"..."Look at the kind of short dresses they wear.." "Sluts"...
She was devastated with the comments! Her house was 15 minutes away..she looked at the watch it was 7:35 pm..She thought of calling a friend who lived nearby to pick her up. She dialled the number.....Busy....tried again...busy again...for the last time she thought; crossing her fingers, still walking and a fast-beating heart..."Hello", a voice came over...She was relieved..but that feeling didn't seem to last long as her friend was too 'Busy' to pick her up. "Sorry, Take a cab", the friend said. She didn't want to bother anyone more so she decided to make it herself. Enraged, she walked faster.
Her heart pounded as she passed through people, hoping for a little kindness, a little chivalry...."These faces...", she thought..."They appear priest-like in the daylight and finally scavengers; the reality behind these faces..". She stumbled ...her heels were not supportive to the speed she took! She walked; dis balanced, looking like a mess..sweaty...her make up couldn't hide her fright. She just wanted to go home.

She entered a very dark, silent area...her way towards home...there was no other road to take...It was just silent. No inhumane comments, No pathetic remarks, no scary looks...nothing! Still, Her heart leapt.  All of a sudden, a  tall, bald drunk man from the behind came stumbling..singing....she was scared...trembled.....the cold weather couldn't stop her from sweating..."Wow, what a piece!", he said. By this time her fear had reached heights. "Come on over here", he said. Her heels disrupted her from walking faster. She didn't utter a word. The drunk man started following her..."Where will you go?", "You are mine tonight".......

She took out her heels and ran....just ran.......didn't bother about her feet getting dirty...and ran....The drunk man continued running, following and calling her but the level of alcohol he had in his body didn't allow him to run any further,he fell and lied down near a bush! But she didn't stop....she had been through a long frustrating night....she just wanted to sense her mother's warm presence.. see her little brother's innocent face..her home...the safest place she felt she would ever be in..she wanted to escape the horror of that night.

It was 8:05 pm, she was finally close to her home. In her own locality, her neighbours...So,she tried to be as much as normal as possible..wore the heels back again...managed her dress, her hair; that got all messed up...wiped the tears and  the sweat on her forehead.  She finally reached the gate of her house. Ringing the doorbell she tried to look alright..as if she hadn't been through anything that happened..she didn't want her mother to worry....with a fake smile on her face..her heart beating less faster than before trying to catch the normal beat, she stood there.. waiting.. Her mother opened the door,"You're late", she said looking not too happy. But she just smiled and hugged her mother.
